U.S. President Joe Biden has chosen Karine Jean-Pierre as the next White House spokesperson, giving this high-profile position to a black and lesbian woman for the first time.
I am everything Donald Trump hates, Karine Jean-Pierre said in 2018. Named White House spokeswoman on Thursday, she will become the first black and openly lesbian woman to hold the position, which is as prestigious as it is fearsomely exposed.
She will replace Jen Psaki, whose deputy she was until now, as of May 13, according to a White House statement.
Karin not only brings the experience, talent and integrity needed for this difficult job, but she continues to communicate the work of the Biden-Harris administration on behalf of the American people, Joe Biden said in a statement.
Karine Jean-Pierre was born in 1977 in Martinique of Haitian parents. She was involved with Barack Obama during his first campaign in 2008.
