In Japan, a store sells PLASTIC pastries by mistake

In Japan, plastic food representations are a multi-million dollar industry, but one bakery’s fake egg tarts are so realistic that five of them were sold to customers by accident.
The plastic food samples, known as “shokuhin sampuru,” are made with painstaking care to present the food sold by the establishments as realistically as possible, whether it’s the moisture droplets on a pint of beer or the glistening surface of a bowl of ramen.
But the plastic pastries from Osaka-based Andrew’s Egg Tart were so convincing that even the staff couldn’t tell the difference and unwittingly sold five on Saturday to two customers at a short-lived stand near a train station in Tottori, western Japan.
“We are very sorry that we sold these samples by mistake,” a company representative told AFP on Wednesday.
An employee realized the mistake shortly after the sale and customers luckily returned the fake pies to the stand before taking a potentially painful first bite.
Stickers will now be used to distinguish real pies from plastic desserts to prevent further incidents.
